Benefits of having a doula

When a doula is present during childbirth there is a significant decrease in interventions including:

  • 50% fewer Cesarean births

  • 60% fewer epidurals

  • 40% decreased use of Pitocin

  • 30% decreased use of narcotics

Labor is also shortened by 25% as a result of having birth doula support.  In addition, babies have fewer health problems, breastfeeding is more successful, and there is less chance of postpartum depression.
